Daryl Poulin was born and raised in Maine, but relocated to West as he grew in his dedication to creating artwork. Though he began as an abstract artist, he shifted to realistic, interested instead in capturing the details of western wildlife and landscapes. After a career as a commercial artist and honing his painting skills on the side, he decided to focus on the West as his subject and is now known for his western-themed artwork.

As a painter of the West, Poulin's subjects include horses, Native Americans and Cowboys, and mountain wildlife, all interacting with a sweeping western landscape. He prefers working with oil and acrylic to capture the warm colors of the West.

Daryl Poulin is often featured in western-themed art shows around the country, and he is commission to create work, such as a commemorative piece for the 75th anniversary of the Buffalo Bill Cody Stampede. Though he paints primarily the Old Wild West, he wants to represent the West as it currently exists, as well. He explains, "I want to depict the contemporary as it really is. I'm filtering an old subject through current sensibilities."
